ESSENTIAL JESUS

A 20-week Bible reading series
The 'Essential Jesus' Bible Programme starts on Sunday May 15th. It's a 20-week Bible reading programme, of five readings a week, with small group discussion from dvd clips, and Sunday sermons on the theme. The Essential Jesus course invites people to read through 100 essential Bible passages about the life and mission of Jesus, and comes with a book of one-page reflections on each passage costing about $13. It can be done as an individual (just doing the daily readings) or as part of a small group meeting in a home each week. This is a joint venture between the Bible Society, Scripture Union, Wycliffe Bible Translators and Radio Rhema.

You are invited to join this Bible reading course and to join a small group for the 20 weeks if youre not already part of one.

ALPHA COURSE

for people wanting to explore faith in God and the meaning of life

The Alpha Course is an 8-session practical exploration of the Christian faith and living. It is designed primarily for non-churchgoers wanting to explore questions of faith and life and for new Christians. However, it can be a helpful refresher course for Christian people of any age.

Our next course starts on Wednesday August 10th and runs for 8 weeks. There is no charge and anyone may attend. Contact our church office if you are interested.

Alpha was developed 20 years ago at Holy Trinity Brompton, an Anglican Church in London, and there are now more than 900 NZ churches running Alpha courses. About 16 million people have attended the course world-wide in 164 countries. The syllabus for the course is contained in the book ‘Questions of Life’ and includes the following topics: Who is Jesus? Why is the death of Jesus important? How can I have faith? How and why can I pray? How and why do I read the Bible? How does God guide us? How do we understand Evil? Who is the Holy Spirit and what does He do? What is the Church about?

THE SCHOOL OF PRAYER

A free Saturday seminar on learning to pray with more enjoyment and effectiveness.

Ever thought that your prayer life could be better? Ever been taught how to pray? Learn to pray with greater enjoyment and effectiveness on Saturday August 27th, 9am-4.30pm.

Australian Eric Leach has led this seminar for over 20 years in a lively and humorous way. Its free so that anyone can attend but we invite a donation to cover costs. A creche and childrens programme will be available during the seminar. Brochures are available from our church office (357 9411).
